Washi Tape Magnets

Are you obsessed with washi tape and looking for more projects to use it on? I have definitely been bit by the washi tape obsession and am constantly looking for creative ways to use it. This past weekend I used it to make some magnets and have included the tutorial below.

The necessary items are simple:
 Directions:
  • Cut 6" of magnet off of the roll
  • Peel of the backing
  • Place the washi tape onto the sticky side of the magnet
  • Use the deckle scissors to cut each end and in the middle (gives a "ripped" look)
  • Washi tape is slightly wider than the magnet tape, using normal scissors, slide the blade against the magnet to trim off the excess.
  • Enjoy!
Washi tape that is darker in color and doesn't rely on the background for white works better. For example in the photo below the white in the teal & white damask is printed on to the tape itself whereas the pink tile pattern uses a clear section for its white. Since the magnet is black this clear doesn't always look right. To fix this problem, you can first place a piece of solid white washi tape then put the pattern piece on top.

And here is the final product!

Let me know if you get a chance to make these yourself and send me your results!

Awesome iPad Mini Giveaway

Andie finished Nursing School!

Two long, hard years of not procrastinating; being put into extremely uncomfortable/scary/exciting situations; and constant sleep deprivation has finally paid off!

With that said, I am ready to party! And since my readers are not here to celebrate with me I thought I would celebrate 'blogger-style' with a giveaway.

Who knows what I have wanted for the past 2 years (but couldn't afford because I barely worked and accrued student loans during school AND unfortunately did not win the giveaways for them on other sites)? Let's do an NCLEX style question (For those who are unfamiliar with NCLEX, this is an exam nurses must take to begin practicing):

A nursing student named Andie has spent the past 2 years learning how to be a nurse. What priority item has she wanted to purchase and will now purchase first because she has accomplished her goal?
Please note that all answers may be correct. Please choose the answer that is most correct.
A. An iPad Mini
B. Shoes
C. Makeup
D. All of the Above

Correct Answer: A
Rationale: This question is asking  what she would purchase first and uses the terms priority and first which indicates that only one item should be selected. Given the title of this blog has the word 'iPad Mini' in it, should also indicate this is the priority item. All other items will be purchased later on.

Back to the giveaway! About 4 months ago I emailed some of my fellow bloggers and asked if they would like to help me celebrate, and boy were they excited and willing. I had 23 lovely ladies who decided to chip in and help me give an iPad mini away.

To add to their amazing-ness, they even agreed to make the entries SUPER simple! Everyone only provided 2-3 links, which were GFC/Bloglovin, Twitter, and Facebook. No instagram, pinterest, 'click on this site and favorite this'. Just plain and simple entries which = more chances to win in a shorter amount of time.

Here are those lovely, amazing ladies:

A Notebook Obsession

I love notebooks and bright colored pens. I've been wanting to make my own spiral notebook using washi tape on the cover; however, I haven't been able to find lined paper in 8.5x5.5" that isn't punched for a 3-ring binder so I decided that I needed to just break down and buy one.

I wanted something cute and functional (i.e it needed to be lined and small). Earlier this week I was at Target and found a notebook that I love. It fits all the requirements - cute, lined pages and perfect size!

I felt as though the gold embossed polka dots gave this notebook a Kate Spade feel. For other color options of this notebook you can check out the listing on Target's website; and the pens can be found on Amazon.

This notebook has already had my current to-do list transferred into it and I can't wait to start crossing items off of it!  I considered to make this list like a true engineer and color code it based off of various categories - blog, home, shop but realized that I probably wouldn't have all three pens with me at all times so for now it is random for which color is used.

Are you a fan of to-do lists and fun pens too? Let me know what you use for your lists!

DIY Freezer Pops

Growing up I loved Otter Pops, they were a summer institution. A couple weeks ago I discovered Zipzicles which are small zipper bags to make your own freezer pops!  Zipzicles were developed in Bellevue, Washington by a parent with a allergy-stricken child. They can be bought online and some stores around the Seattle area.

One thing I love is that the website is full of recipes, but I still tried to develop my own.

Strawberry-Rhubarb Freezer Pop

Ingredients (makes 12):
  • 4 cups chopped rhubarb
  • 4 cups chopped strawberries
  • 2 Tablespoons honey (can be adjusted based on preference for sourness)
Directions:
  • Blend all above ingredients in a blender
  • Pour into Zipzicle pouch and freeze

These bags can be recycled or re-used. I'm going to be recycling these rhubarb ones since they left a good amount of pulp and strings inside. If the mixture I made had been more smooth then they would be easy to clean out and reuse. I can't wait to try out more recipes and enjoy these all summer.
